Hannah
Hoch was born November 1 1889, she was born in Gotha Germany. She studied at
college of Arts and Grant in berlin. In 1914 at the start of WW1 she left
school to work in the Red cross. She soon began an influential friendship with Raul Housman a member of the Berlin Dada movement – which soon led to a friendship
of romance over time. after schooling in 1919 she became personally involved in
the Berlin Dadaist movement . During her relationship with Housman she
collaborated with him on multiple paintings, but she was never recognized
because she was a female. She wasn’t considered his equal rather just someone in
a relationship wit him, this led her to her involvement as an activist for women rights and equality,
which often reflects in her paintings. until her death in 1978,Hoch paintings regularly involve men and
women in the same forms, stressing that she believes men and women are equal.
Here in this first painting by Hannah Hoch. This image shows
various different kinds of eyes belonging to both men and women. All are
different colors different shapes and sizes. One cannot tell whether the eyes
belong to a man or a woman. This image again refers to Hoch’s view that men and
women are one and if especially if they have the same job.
This second image displays what appears to be half of female body
with male and female faces on it. I do
not quite understand the essence of why the
female face looks almost like a puzzle and missing one eye or why the male face
only shows the eyes and forehead, but what I do understand from this image is
the it clearly depicts again Hoch’s view that men and women are equal . the female statue
In the last photo by it has various pictures of men
in women attire, it looks like almost making a mockery of mans manhood, and
this image reflects Hoch view that men and women are one and should be treated
as such.
